## Review sign policy and usability check

Design a review sign that invites honest feedback without pressure, star requests or rewards. Includes a printed-material review worksheet.

No signup. Enter reference codes, add records and download a CSV. Entries stay in the browser tab. Filled fields do not establish completion, approval or compliance.

| Material reference | Destination profile | Invitation wording | Optionality check | Incentive check | Phone scan result |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Counter-card-v1 | Google location-A | Share your experience | No staff pressure | No incentive | Pending |

- Starting values are fictional examples, not customer records.

- Keep confidential evidence in your approved business systems. Record only a reference here.

- Complete each row from observed evidence. A completed worksheet does not certify legal compliance or provider compatibility.

- Export your CSV to approved storage before leaving this page.

A review QR code should save a customer from searching for the right business without making checkout uncomfortable. Don’t have an employee watch someone pick five stars. Keep the invitation optional and neutral, and make it easy to use later. The sign's wording and the staff behavior around it matter as much as whether the code scans.

A review invitation should follow a genuine experience, not a satisfaction test. Check the process without paying for ratings or treating a delivered message as a review.

## Follow the right platform's rules

Google lets businesses invite reviews about real experiences, as long as they don't offer incentives or try to influence what people say. Its current policy also prohibits pressuring customers to review on-site, asking for specific content, or setting staff quotas for soliciting reviews. A counter card doesn't mean you can stand over someone until they finish.

Yelp has different rules. Yelp tells businesses not to ask customers for reviews. Don’t create one “review us everywhere” campaign and assume the same request belongs on both platforms. A link to your Yelp page isn’t the same as asking someone to post a Yelp review. Check the platform instructions before you print anything.

## Make the destination unambiguous

Put the business name on the sign and say what it does: opens the Google review page. Test it on a phone that isn’t signed into the owner’s account. Check that it points to the right location, especially if you have two branches. Google says reviewers need a Google account, even if they signed up with a non-Gmail email address.

At an illustrative tint shop, the counter has a payment sign and a review card. If both use the same blue square and say “scan here,” customers won’t know where they’re headed. Give each a clear, distinct heading. [QR payment tools](<https://bluefinchadvisors.com/toolbox/qr-payments>) open a payment destination. The review card opens feedback. Don’t make reviewing look like a requirement for getting a receipt.

## Remove pressure from the script

Keep the staff explanation short: the card offers an optional way to share an honest experience after the visit. Don’t ask for a certain rating, tell customers what service keywords to include, or offer a discount for completing the review. And staff shouldn’t choose who gets the card based on whether a customer seems pleased.

The [review management tools](<https://bluefinchadvisors.com/toolbox/review-management>) include printable materials where enabled. Check the final wording. Don’t assume a generated template meets every platform’s current rules. And if a vendor suggests using a satisfaction score to decide who sees the public link, say no. Service feedback and public-review access shouldn’t be set up to hide unhappy customers.

## Test the printed version

Print one copy at the intended size. Check glare, contrast, the distance from the counter, and whether the code remains readable after lamination. Provide a normal business contact route for someone who wants to discuss a problem privately. That route should not replace the public link only when the customer's feedback is negative.

The worksheet tracks the material version, destination, wording, optionality, incentives, and scan result. Replacing signs? Use the version reference so outdated cards don’t linger in waiting areas or outgoing folders. Keep copies away from payment-terminal screens, where they could confuse the next checkout.

Don’t judge the sign by how many stars it promises. Check that it routes people correctly and is used respectfully. Sample the staff explanation, then inspect where it leads after profile changes. If customers say the request feels uncomfortable, change the process. They should be free to say nothing, write criticism, or go home and decide later what they want to share.
