The short version

  • Show both prices before collecting an appointment deposit or final payment.
  • Use the same explanation at the shop, in booking flows, and on mobile jobs.
  • Keep film, vehicle, invoice, receipt, and warranty records connected.
  • Treat debit, remote cards, wallets, refunds, and bundled services as launch tests.

A tint shop may take a small booking deposit for one vehicle and a large final payment for tint, paint protection film, and coating on another. It may collect at a counter, on a mobile terminal, or through a remote link. One sign and one terminal script will not cover every path.

A sound dual-pricing review follows the actual appointment. The customer sees the regular card price and lower cash price before paying, the shop identifies the vehicle and work, and the invoice, receipt, installation record, and warranty paperwork remain consistent.

Calculate the shop's complete effective rate

Add every processing cost for a complete statement period and divide by settled card volume. Include percentage charges, per-transaction amounts, monthly account costs, gateway charges, PCI fees, batch fees, and other processing items that belong in the period.

If the complete bill is $1,400 on $40,000 of settled card sales, the effective rate is 3.5%. That is an arithmetic example, not a tint-shop benchmark. Use recent statements and reconcile deposits so the same sale is not counted twice.

$1,400 complete processing cost / $40,000 settled card sales = 3.5%

The first payment choice may happen at booking

If the shop collects a deposit online or by text, show the applicable prices and deposit terms before the customer submits payment. Identify what the deposit reserves, how it will be applied, and what the written cancellation or no-show policy says.

A website or booking tool that shows only one amount while the shop counter shows two creates a fractured experience. Confirm which channels the processor-approved program supports before enabling the feature.

Connect the payment to the vehicle and film record

3M's warranty information identifies details such as customer, product, vehicle, installer, date, and original invoice. A shop using another manufacturer should follow that manufacturer's current process. Payment records do not replace installation and warranty records, but they should point to the same job.

Keep vehicle tint legality separate from payment pricing

Window-tint laws vary by jurisdiction. A dual-pricing setup does not approve a film, shade, windshield area, exemption, or vehicle application. Use current state-specific legal sources and the shop's compliance process for the product decision.

Do not turn a payment article into a fifty-state tint-law chart that will age quickly. The shop should document the film selected and any required acknowledgment using up-to-date local guidance.

Compare the entire proposal and operating change

BlueFinch's current offer can provide a 0% merchant credit-card rate on eligible configured transactions, a standalone terminal at no charge, no equipment lease, no long-term contract, no cancellation fee, signage, and launch support. Account-specific monthly, debit, PCI, gateway, batch, chargeback, and other fees may remain.

Review state law, the processor agreement, network rules, card treatment, price display, mobile use, booking links, refunds, and equipment ownership. Then compare a representative year using the shop's actual payment mix.

Questions business owners ask

Can a tint shop use dual pricing on a booking deposit?

Only when the approved booking or remote flow presents the required choice and terms before payment. Confirm the channel with the processor or acquirer.

Does a digital wallet automatically count as credit?

No. A wallet can carry different underlying credentials. The approved terminal identifies how the transaction is handled, so test the wallet rather than guessing.

Does BlueFinch determine which tint is legal?

No. Vehicle tint legality is a separate state-specific issue. The shop should rely on current official sources and appropriate professional guidance.

Will the free terminal replace scheduling software?

The standard terminal can sit beside the existing scheduler or POS. Direct integration, deposit transfer, and automated receipts vary by platform and configuration.
