Model assumptions

  • All starting values are fictional examples, not quoted prices or industry averages.
  • Use one consistent period and actual written terms. Unknown costs are unresolved, not zero.
  • Only aggregate amounts belong in this public tool. No card, bank, customer or health information.

Read alongside these results

  • One deposit and one balance payment per entered job. Split payments need separate counts.
  • Not a refund policy, deposit liability ledger or film-legality assessment.

A tint shop comparing Square alternatives needs to price the booking deposit and the pickup balance separately. The deposit might arrive through an online link days before the vehicle reaches your bay. The balance might be collected at the counter. Those payments serve one installation, but they do not necessarily carry the same processing rate or create one transaction charge.

You should start with the booking process that you currently use. Take notes on where the customer selects a package and where you collect the deposit and the remaining balance for the installation. Also, note which service is used to send confirmation of a booking and to track a reschedule of a booking. A payment terminal may replace a pickup device but that does not mean that the rest of the appointment booking process will also be replaced.

Use with this guide

tint deposit and rebooking ledger

Keep the tint deposit and rebooking ledger beside the cost comparison so a moved appointment does not become a second collection.

wallet and debit classification audit

Separate booking from pickup payments

Use Square’s fee guidance as a reference to determine which rate will be applied (in-person, online, via invoice, etc.) as it varies based on the plan and account. Compare the rates of location’s Square accounts in the dashboard. For booking services, verify the rate of any additional payment channels (e.g. online payment links, mobile payment processing) used by the service. Compare the rates of various payment terminals, but apply the rate of the counter terminal to only the in-person collections associated with the installation.

Create a free model to calculate and compare all costs for completed bookings, including a deposit collection cost, a balance collection cost and a total cost. In this model, include fixed services, such as subscription costs, which are the same for all jobs. The model is designed for jobs that pay one deposit and one balance. Add another row for any subsequent payments. Keep the tint deposit and rebooking ledger beside the cost comparison so a moved appointment does not become a second collection.

Compare one group of installation jobs

An illustrative group of 20 installations pays a $100 deposit and a $400 balance per job. At a hypothetical 3% plus $0.20 for the deposit and 2% plus $0.10 for pickup, processing costs $64 and $162. Add an illustrative $25 fixed monthly service and the total is $251. The example is not a Square or BlueFinch quote, a tint-ticket average or a promised saving.

Separate the sales group from your statement month. Deposits taken near month-end might belong to installations completed next month. The model is a job-group comparison, not a reconciliation of every bank deposit in a calendar month. Keep the booking reference, installation date and payment dates available. Do not count a retained deposit again as a new payment when the balance is collected.

Retain deposit and rebooking records

Review the exceptions first. For rescheduled bookings, a deposit could be retained for the new date whereas for a canceled booking a refund may be required under your terms & conditions. Identify which account to use for any refunds, and how your staff will locate the original payment. Also ensure that the old provider’s necessary reporting is still accessible for a few months to enable any queries that may arise.

Also confirm any product dependence on the old payment processing. Test all functions in the new payment processing, i.e. book a fictional job for deposit, reschedule and pickup. Also confirm the invoice references update correctly on the various records. Note any manual steps required instead of a completely automated process.

Check prices and payment methods

If considering dual pricing, show the approved payment choices before the customer chooses a package and pays a deposit. Verify both online and counter disclosures. Ask how the program handles deposits already collected under the old arrangement. Do not quietly change the remaining price on an accepted quote. Debit and prepaid treatment requires confirmation, and credit-card surcharge rules do not permit surcharging those cards.

BlueFinch reviews processing arrangements for tint shops, including the channels in the written offer. Bring your deposit policy and actual booking setup to the review. This guide promises no direct connection between BlueFinch and Square or your appointment platform. The free model helps you ask a precise cost question without guessing how a replacement payment service connects to the calendar. Use the wallet and debit classification audit before applying any credit-card surcharge.

Save the accepted workflow

Keep product suitability outside the payment calculation. Confirm the vehicle, film selection and applicable installation requirements through your existing shop process. A payment receipt does not establish the chosen shade is legal or the warranty applies. Store the approved installation record where staff already manage the work, with a reference in the payment record when supported.

Track completed bookings for a few weeks using your front desk. Then, for each of those completed bookings, follow the deposit, balance, invoice and settlement. Also, follow any rescheduled jobs booked before you made the change and see how they have processed. Compare the real fee total for these jobs with the fee total calculated by the saved model using the real number of payments for each job. Also, identify any fixed services that have been omitted from payments and any repeated transaction charges and fix these before the booking history becomes too difficult to follow.
