Start with collected card sales

BlueFinch calculates the effective rate from the complete processing bill and the settled card volume for the same period. Cash, checks, ACH, financing proceeds, open invoices, and other non-card receipts stay out of the denominator.

Do not count insurer checks, insurer ACH payments, financing proceeds, or other non-card receipts as card volume. Include only the money that actually runs through the merchant account.

Who tends to qualify

The shop collects meaningful customer-pay balances, deductibles, or deposits by credit card.

Customers see the estimate and expected balance before vehicle delivery.

The front office can show the payment choices on estimates, payment requests, invoices, and receipts.

The owner will compare the full statement and every remaining account fee.

When the program is a poor fit

Most collected revenue arrives by insurer check or ACH, with little credit-card volume.

The shop wants to treat debit or prepaid cards as credit-card transactions.

The shop cannot show the customer-facing prices before authorization or payment.

A required estimating-system integration has not been confirmed in writing.

Treat each payment method as its own lane

Customer-pay balances may arrive by cash, check, ACH, debit card, credit card, financing, or an approved wallet. A wallet does not identify the funding type by itself. The terminal and written program must recognize the underlying card correctly.

$2,500 customer-paid repair: $88.50 at the 3.54% BlueFinch benchmark.

$7,500 customer-paid repair: $265.50 at the 3.54% BlueFinch benchmark.

Map the payment choice to the work

Estimate and authorization: Put the payment choices on customer-facing estimates before work is authorized, not only on a sign beside the terminal.

Deductible or deposit: Record who paid, how they paid, what the money applies to, and whether the amount is refundable under the shop's written policy.

Supplement: When the approved repair changes, keep the customer balance, insurer amount, invoice, and payment request synchronized.

Delivery and refund: Match the final invoice, terminal, receipt, release record, and any later refund to the same transaction history.

What makes this workflow different

Separate insurer-paid money from card volume before estimating cost.

Map deductibles, customer-pay repairs, betterment, and other customer balances separately.

Keep supplement approvals and revised customer balances in one audit trail.

Document deposits, remote payments, delivery, refunds, and authorization language.

A private body-shop account above $100,000 in monthly customer pay

One body shop BlueFinch converted had more than $100,000 a month in customer-pay work. Almost all of that volume was paid by credit card. The shop moved eligible configured credit-card transactions to a 0% merchant credit-card rate and is saving more than $3,500 a month according to BlueFinch's account records.

The business name and statements are private. This is one client result, not an industry average or a promise. Monthly and other account-specific fees remain.

What the current offer includes

Eligible configured credit-card transactions can carry a 0% merchant processing rate. BlueFinch supplies a standalone terminal at no charge, without an equipment lease, long-term contract, or cancellation fee, and provides signage and launch support.

Monthly, debit, PCI, gateway, batch, chargeback, and other account-specific fees may remain. The exact program depends on state law, underwriting, network rules, the processor or acquirer, payment channels, and customer-facing prices.
